The GUHRING 9048870030000 is a spiral point tap designed for through-hole threading in steel and similar ferrous materials. Built from HSS-E cobalt, it delivers the heat resistance and edge retention needed for production tapping in demanding applications. The tap features an Ignator finish that reduces friction and extends tool life in high-cycle environments. With an overall length of 1.941 inches, a shank diameter of 0.141 inches, and a thread length of 0.709 inches, it is sized for compact fixturing and standard tapping fixtures alike. Licensed machinists and toolroom techs are the primary users of this tool.
This tap is intended for cutting M3x0.5 metric coarse internal threads in through-hole applications. The spiral point geometry pushes chips forward ahead of the cutting action, making it well-suited for through-holes where chip evacuation clearance exists. The 3-flute, plug chamfer configuration provides a smooth lead-in and consistent thread engagement. The 6H thread tolerance class meets standard metric fit requirements for general mechanical assemblies. It is commonly used in precision machining, production environments, and repair work where metric fastener threads are required in steel workpieces.
Designed for through-hole threading applications in steel workpieces requiring M3x0.5 metric coarse threads at a 6H tolerance class. Fits standard tapping chucks and holders accepting a 0.141-inch shank diameter.
This tap is installed and operated by machinists or toolroom technicians using a tapping chuck, drill press, or CNC machining center. Ensure the pilot hole diameter is correct for M3x0.5 threads before tapping. Apply an appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to improve finish quality and tool life. Do not reverse a spiral point tap during the cut, as chip packing can occur and damage the tap or workpiece thread.
