The GUHRING 9048813127000 is a spiral flute tap designed for blind hole threading in a wide range of metals. It cuts a 1/2-13 UNC right-hand thread to a 2B/3B class of fit using a modified bottoming chamfer, which provides thread engagement close to the bottom of a blind hole. Manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel and finished with GUHRING Ignator coating, this tap handles demanding materials including stainless steel, heat-treated steel, and cast iron. The 40-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation in these tougher applications. It is used by machinists, tool and die makers, and maintenance mechanics in production and job-shop environments.
This tap is suited for blind hole threading operations in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and tapping arms where controlled chip removal is critical. The fast flute style and 40-degree helix angle pull chips up and out of the hole during the cutting cycle, reducing the risk of chip packing in closed-bottom bores. It is appropriate for threading alloy steel, alloy tool steel, aluminum alloy, case-hardened steel, cast iron, ductile iron, free-cutting steel, heat-treated steel, malleable cast iron, stainless steel, structural steel, and tool steel. The H3 thread limit classification ensures a consistent fit tolerance across production runs requiring 2B or 3B class of fit.
Designed for blind hole threading in alloy steel, alloy tool steel, aluminum alloy, case-hardened steel, cast iron, ductile iron, free-cutting steel, heat-treated steel, malleable cast iron, stainless steel, structural steel, and tool steel. Part of GUHRING Series 4881.
Installation is performed by machinists and tooling technicians using standard tap holders, floating tap holders, or rigid tapping chucks sized for the 0.367-inch shank diameter. Ensure the tap is properly aligned to the pre-drilled hole to avoid tap breakage or thread distortion. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material, as cobalt taps in hard alloys benefit from sulfur-based or synthetic cutting oils. Confirm tapping depth does not exceed the rated tapping depth of 0.422 inches to protect the tap and maintain thread quality.
