The GUHRING 9048812031750 is a spiral flute tap designed for blind hole threading in a wide range of metals. Built from cobalt high-speed steel and finished with GUHRING's Ignator coating, this tap delivers the wear resistance and cutting performance required in demanding production and maintenance environments. It is configured for UNC threading at 40 threads per inch, sized at 5-40, with a modified bottoming chamfer for threading close to the bottom of blind holes. The 3-flute spiral design evacuates chips upward out of the hole, reducing the risk of chip packing. With an overall length of 1.941 inches and a shank diameter of 0.141 inches, this tap fits standard tap holders and chucks used in CNC and manual machine setups.
This tap is suited for production threading operations in machine shops, maintenance and repair facilities, and toolroom environments. The modified bottoming chamfer makes it the correct choice where thread engagement close to the blind hole floor is required. The H2 thread limit and 2B/3B class of fit cover the most common tolerance requirements for standard UNC fastener applications. Compatible material applications include alloy steel, alloy tool steel, aluminum alloy, case-hardened steel, cast iron, ductile iron, free-cutting steel, heat-treated steel, malleable cast iron, stainless steel, structural steel, and tool steel. Machinists, tool and die makers, and CNC operators are the primary users of this tap.
Designed as an OEM-style spiral flute tap for use in standard tap holders and machine spindles accepting a 0.141-inch shank diameter. Suitable for UNC 5-40 blind hole threading applications across the material types listed in the specifications.
Installation and use of this tap should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom professional. Secure the tap in a properly sized tap holder or collet before use, and ensure the machine spindle is at a complete stop before loading or removing the tool. Apply appropriate cutting fluid or tapping compound for the workpiece material to maximize tool life and thread quality. Follow shop safety protocols and applicable OSHA machine guarding requirements when operating drilling and tapping equipment.
