The GUHRING 9044150080000 is a spiral point tap designed for through-hole threading in a wide range of metallic materials. Built from cobalt high-speed steel with an oxide finish, it handles demanding applications where standard HSS taps fall short. The tap is configured as a plug chamfer with a 3-flute spiral point geometry that pushes chips forward ahead of the cutting zone, making it well suited for through-hole work. It carries a 6H thread limit class of fit and a D5 tap limit designation, producing accurate M8 x 1.25 metric coarse threads. Overall length is 2.72 inches with a thread length of 0.669 inches and a shank diameter of 0.318 inches. Right-hand cut only. No coolant-through feature.
This tap is intended for production and maintenance threading operations across a broad spectrum of materials. Its cobalt construction makes it appropriate for harder and more abrasive workpieces than standard M2 HSS taps can reliably handle. Typical install scenarios include machine shops, fabrication facilities, and MRO environments where consistent 6H-class metric threads are required in through-hole configurations. Compatible materials listed by the manufacturer include aluminum, aluminum alloys, case hardened steel, cast iron, free cutting steel, heat treatable steel, stainless steel, structural steel, sulfured steel, and tool steel.
Designed for through-hole threading of M8 x 1.25 metric coarse threads in aluminum, aluminum alloys, case hardened steel, cast iron, free cutting steel, heat treatable steel, stainless steel, structural steel, sulfured steel, and tool steel. Part of GUHRING Series 4415.
Tapping operations should be performed by a machinist or tooling professional using a properly aligned tap wrench, drill press, or CNC machine tool. Ensure the drilled pilot hole diameter is correct for an M8 x 1.25 thread before tapping - using an undersized hole is the most common cause of tap breakage. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material, particularly when working with stainless or tool steels. Secure the workpiece completely before beginning the threading operation to prevent movement that can damage the tap or the thread.
