The GUHRING 9044053111130 is a spiral point tap designed for through-hole threading in steel and similar materials. It cuts a 7/16-20 UNF right-hand internal thread and uses a plug chamfer to guide entry and distribute cutting load across the leading threads. The tap is manufactured from HSS-E cobalt high-speed steel for improved heat and wear resistance compared to standard HSS. A steam oxide coating reduces friction and helps resist galling during the tapping cycle. With a thread limit of H5 and a class of fit rating of 2B/3B, this tap produces threads within tight commercial and precision tolerances. Machinists and maintenance technicians install it in drill presses, CNC machining centers, and hand-tapping setups.
This tap is suited for through-hole threading applications in steel workpieces, including structural steel, mild steel, and similar ferrous materials. The spiral point design pushes chips forward ahead of the tap rather than packing them in the flutes, making it well matched to through-hole work where chip evacuation is straightforward. At 3.1610 inches overall length with a 0.8660-inch thread length and 0.3230-inch shank diameter, it fits standard tap holders and collet chucks sized for 7/16 taps. It is sold individually and is part of the GUHRING Series 4405 lineup.
Designed for through-hole threading in steel. Fits standard tap holders and collet chucks accepting a 0.3230-inch shank diameter. Part of the GUHRING Series 4405.
Machinists and toolroom technicians install this tap using a tap wrench, tapping head, or CNC rigid-tapping cycle. Ensure the tap is aligned perpendicular to the workpiece surface before engagement to avoid bell-mouthed or torn threads. Apply cutting fluid rated for ferrous materials throughout the tapping cycle. Always de-energize and lock out machine power before changing or inspecting taps in powered equipment.
