The GUHRING 9043900041660 is a spiral point tap designed for right-hand, through-hole threading in a wide range of metallic materials. It cuts an 8-32 UNC thread at 32 threads per inch and conforms to a 2B class of fit, which is the standard tolerance for most general-purpose inch-thread applications. The tap is ground from high-speed steel (HSS) and finished with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating that extends cutting edge life and reduces built-up edge in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The 3-flute spiral point geometry pushes chips forward through the hole rather than packing them behind the tap, making it well suited to through-hole work. Overall length is 4 inches with a 2-inch neck length and a 0.168-inch shank diameter.
This tap is used in machine-tapping operations on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and tapping machines where a through-hole 8-32 UNC thread is required. It is rated for use in aluminum, gray cast iron, malleable iron, spheroidal iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and steel. The plug chamfer provides a moderate lead-in of typically 3 to 5 threads, making it appropriate for most production through-hole tapping scenarios where a bottoming tap is not required. It belongs to GUHRING Series 4390 and carries a thread limit designation of H3/H4, indicating the ground tolerance range of the tap above basic pitch diameter.
Designed as a machine tap for through-hole 8-32 UNC threading in aluminum, gray cast iron, malleable iron, spheroidal iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and steel. Part of GUHRING Series 4390.
Installation and use of this tap should be performed by a machinist or tool-and-die professional familiar with tapping feeds, speeds, and cutting fluid selection for the workpiece material. Ensure the spindle is at the correct RPM and feed rate for the material being tapped before engaging the tool. Use an appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil — dry tapping in steel or stainless steel will accelerate wear and risk tap breakage. Always confirm workpiece is securely fixtured and the tap is properly aligned to the drilled pilot hole before cycling the machine.
