The GUHRING 9042870127000 is a spiral flute tap designed for threading blind holes to a 1/2-13 UNC specification. It features a 40-degree helix angle and a modified bottoming chamfer, which allows threading closer to the bottom of a blind hole than a standard plug tap. Manufactured from high-speed steel and finished with a TiN (titanium nitride) coating, this tap offers improved wear resistance and surface lubricity. The 3-flute spiral design evacuates chips upward and out of the hole, reducing the risk of chip packing in blind-hole applications. It carries a 2B class of fit and H5/H6 thread limits, making it suitable for standard commercial tolerance threading work.
This tap is rated for use in a broad range of materials including aluminum, non-ferrous metals, gray cast iron, malleable iron, spheroidal iron, stainless steel, and steel. It is well suited for production and maintenance threading in blind holes where chip evacuation and consistent thread form are critical. The right-hand flute and right-hand thread configuration covers the most common threading applications encountered in machining and fabrication environments. Machinists, toolmakers, and maintenance technicians will find this tap appropriate for both manual and machine tapping operations.
Designed for blind-hole threading applications in aluminum, non-ferrous metals, gray cast iron, malleable iron, spheroidal iron, stainless steel, and steel. Part of the GUHRING Series 4287 spiral flute tap line.
This tap should be installed and operated by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with tapping feeds, speeds, and proper tap wrench or machine tapping practices. Always ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the tap is properly aligned before beginning the threading operation. Use a cutting fluid or tapping compound appropriate to the workpiece material to extend tool life and achieve a clean thread form. Inspect the tap for wear or damage before each use and replace if chipping or excessive wear is observed.
