The GUHRING 9042520079400 is a solid carbide square end mill engineered for high-performance metal removal in demanding machining applications. It features a 5/16-inch cutting diameter, a 1-3/4-inch length of cut, and a 4-inch overall length with a straight cylindrical 5/16-inch shank. The four-flute configuration with variable helix angles of 35 and 38 degrees reduces chatter and harmonic vibration during full-slot and peripheral milling operations. A FIREX coating provides thermal resistance and lubricity, extending tool life in abrasive and hard materials. This is a single-end, centercutting design, allowing plunge entry as well as conventional side milling.
This end mill is suited for milling cast iron, steel, stainless steel, and hard materials in production and job-shop environments. The extra-long length of cut and variable helix geometry make it appropriate for deep-pocket, stepped-cavity, and full-length side wall applications where standard-reach tools fall short. Right-hand cut and right-hand spiral flute orientation are standard for conventional CNC machining center setups. It is intended for use by machinists and tool-and-die professionals on CNC vertical machining centers and manual knee mills with proper rigid toolholding.
Designed for use in straight-shank end mill holders, ER collet chucks, and hydraulic toolholders accepting a 5/16-inch shank diameter. Primary workpiece materials are cast iron and steel; secondary workpiece materials include stainless steel and hard materials. Part of the GUHRING Series 4252 end mill family.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following the toolholder manufacturer torque and runout specifications. Ensure the shank is fully seated to the minimum insertion depth recommended for the holder type before tightening. Verify spindle runout at the cutting diameter before commencing a production run, as excessive runout accelerates edge wear on carbide tooling. Do not use this tool in holders that show visible wear, scoring, or out-of-round bore conditions.
