The GUHRING 9041220040000 is a spiral point tap designed for through-hole threading in metal workpieces. It cuts an M4 x 0.7 Metric Coarse thread with a right-hand direction and a plug chamfer entry, making it suitable for starting in through-holes without a bottoming style. The tap is manufactured from powdered metal and coated with TiN (Titanium Nitride) for improved wear resistance and lubricity during cutting. With 3 flutes and a thread limit of D3-D4 at a 6H class of fit, it produces accurate, close-tolerance threads. Overall length is 2.48 inches (63.00 mm). It weighs approximately 0.025 pounds. This tool is used by machinists, tool-and-die workers, and maintenance technicians.
This tap is rated for high-tensile steel applications, making it appropriate for threading operations in demanding ferrous materials. The spiral point geometry pushes chips forward ahead of the tap, clearing them out of the flute path during through-hole work. It is suited for use in production and maintenance environments where consistent M4 thread quality is required. The plug chamfer style allows for easy starting alignment in through-hole setups. Series 4122 from GUHRING is intended for general-purpose metric tapping with a focus on dimensional accuracy and tool life in steel.
Designed for through-hole threading operations in high-tensile steel. Suitable for use in CNC tapping, drill press, and hand-tap applications requiring an M4 x 0.7 Metric Coarse thread. Part of GUHRING Series 4122.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the spindle or tap wrench is properly aligned before beginning the threading operation. Use an appropriate cutting fluid or tapping compound for the workpiece material to protect the tap and improve thread finish. Do not reverse the tap under load without backing off chips to avoid breakage, particularly in harder materials.
