The GUHRING 9041120170000 is a 17mm replaceable tip drill from the Series 4112 line, designed for high-performance metal removal in steel and stainless steel applications. The drill tip is manufactured from solid carbide with an HT800 substrate and coated using a PVD process with a Nano-FIREX finish, which improves wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. The included point angle is 140 degrees, and the insert geometry is a 2-facet design suited for accurate entry and reduced thrust force. This tool is intended for use by machinists and toolroom professionals in production drilling environments where tip replacement over the drill body extends tooling economy.
The Series 4112 replaceable tip drill is engineered for primary use in steel (Material Code P) and secondary use in stainless steel (Material Code K and M). It is well suited to CNC machining centers, VMCs, and horizontal machining centers running coolant-external setups, as this drill does not include a coolant-through configuration. The 17mm diameter and 2-facet geometry make it a practical choice for mid-diameter hole production in structural steel, mild steel, and austenitic stainless components where tool change time and edge consistency matter.
Designed for use with GUHRING Series 4112 drill bodies at insert seat size 170. Compatible primary workpiece materials are steel (ISO Code P) and stainless steel (ISO Code K and M). No coolant-through bodies should be used with this tip, as the tip itself does not support internal coolant delivery.
Replaceable tip drills of this type should be installed and torqued into the drill body following the tool manufacturer's torque specification using the appropriate assembly key — never use improvised tools on the tip seat interface. Always ensure the insert seat is clean and free of chips or debris before seating the carbide tip, as contamination at the interface can cause tip runout or premature fracture. Machine spindle should be at full stop before tip changes are performed. Follow your shop's lockout and tooling change procedures in accordance with applicable OSHA and machine tool safety standards.
