The GUHRING 9039990079380 is a spiral flute tap designed for blind hole threading in demanding materials, including stainless steel. It features a 5/16-24 UNF thread form, three flutes with a 40-degree helix angle, and a modified bottoming chamfer that allows threading close to the bottom of a blind bore. The TiN (titanium nitride) coating reduces friction and extends tool life in abrasive and work-hardening materials. The powdered metal substrate provides the hardness and toughness needed for production tapping in tough alloys. Overall length is 2.72 inches with a shank diameter of 0.318 inches.
This tap is suited for machine tapping operations in job shop, production, and maintenance-repair environments where blind hole UNF threads are required. The fast flute style and right-hand spiral flute geometry pull chips up and out of the hole, reducing the risk of chip packing in blind bores. It is appropriate for use in CNC machining centers, turret lathes, and tapping heads operating without through-coolant. The 3B class of fit produces a standard-tolerance internal thread suitable for most fastener and mechanical assembly applications.
Designed for blind hole threading in stainless steel and similarly demanding materials; produces 5/16-24 UNF 3B internal threads and is suited for use in CNC machining centers, tapping heads, and turret lathes that accept standard straight-shank taps with a 0.318-inch shank diameter.
This tap should be installed by a machinist or tooling technician familiar with machine tapping operations. Ensure the machine spindle is stopped and all energy is locked out before changing tooling. Use a properly sized tap holder or floating tap adapter to reduce the risk of tap breakage, and verify correct tap alignment with the pre-drilled pilot hole before engaging the feed. Follow applicable shop safety procedures and manufacturer feeds-and-speeds recommendations for the workpiece material.
