The GUHRING 9039970048260 is a spiral point plug tap designed for through-hole threading in ferrous and hard-to-machine materials, including stainless steel. It cuts a 10-32 UNF right-hand thread to a 3B class of fit with an H3 thread limit, delivering consistent thread form and dimensional accuracy. The three-flute spiral point geometry pushes chips forward ahead of the cutting action, reducing chip packing in through-hole applications. A titanium nitride (TiN) coating improves surface hardness and reduces friction at the cutting edge. This tap belongs to Guhring Series 3997, ground from powdered metal (PM) high-speed steel for tighter tolerances and improved wear resistance compared to conventional HSS. It is sized for use in standard tap wrenches or machine spindles.
This tap is engineered for through-hole threading operations where chip evacuation is the primary concern. The spiral point design makes it well suited for CNC tapping, turret lathes, and drill press work in production environments. Its primary material application is stainless steel, though the TiN coating and powdered metal construction also support use in other tough alloys that demand consistent tool life.
