The GUHRING 9039920127000 is a spiral point tap designed for through-hole threading in 1/2-13 UNC applications. Built from High-Speed Steel-E-PM (powder metallurgy HSS) and finished with a Titanium Nitride (TiN) coating, this tap handles demanding materials including steel, stainless steel, hardened steel, and chilled cast iron. The 4-flute, plug chamfer geometry drives chips forward ahead of the cut, making it well suited for through-hole work where chip evacuation is straightforward. With a 2B class of fit and H5/H6 thread limit, it produces threads within standard tolerance for general fastener assembly in production and maintenance machining environments. Licensed machinists, tool-room operators, and industrial maintenance technicians are the primary users of this tool.
This tap is intended for through-hole threading operations in ferrous materials. The plug chamfer provides a moderate lead-in, making it appropriate for both CNC tapping centers and hand-tapping setups where controlled torque can be applied. Applications span general fabrication shops, MRO environments, and production lines where 1/2-13 UNC threaded holes are common. The TiN coating extends tool life and reduces friction across repeated use cycles. Coolant-through is not supported; standard flood or brush-applied cutting fluid is appropriate for this tool.
Designed for through-hole threading in steel, stainless steel, hardened steel, and chilled cast iron. Compatible with 1/2-13 UNC thread standard. Part of GUHRING Series 3992.
This tap should be installed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician familiar with tapping feeds, speeds, and proper alignment. Always ensure the spindle or tapping attachment is aligned with the hole centerline before engaging the tap to avoid tap breakage or thread distortion. Use an appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material — sulfurized oil or water-soluble coolant is common for steel and stainless applications. Coolant-through is not supported by this tool; external lubrication must be applied. Always secure the workpiece and verify correct drill hole diameter prior to tapping.
