The GUHRING 9039920063500 is a spiral point tap designed for through-hole threading in ferrous and high-strength materials. Built from powdered metal with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, it handles heat-treatable hardened steel, high-tensile steel, and tool steel where standard HSS taps wear prematurely. The 3-flute plug chamfer design pushes chips forward ahead of the tap, making it well suited for through-hole applications. It cuts a 1/4-20 UNC thread to a 2B class of fit with an H4/H5 thread limit, delivering consistent tolerance control in production and maintenance environments. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die makers, and HVAC or plumbing fabricators working with threaded metal assemblies are the primary users.
This tap is applied in through-hole threading operations on heat-treatable hardened steel, high-tensile steel, and tool steel. The plug chamfer provides a gradual thread lead-in, reducing entry force compared to a taper tap while still allowing use in starter holes. With a 5/8 inch thread length and an overall length of 3.15 inches, it fits standard tap holders and CNC rigid-tapping chucks used in vertical machining centers and drill presses alike. The right-hand cut and H4/H5 thread limit support applications requiring close thread tolerance in structural or mechanical assemblies.
Designed for through-hole threading in heat-treatable hardened steel, high-tensile steel, and tool steel. Compatible with standard 1/4-20 UNC tap holders, collet chucks, and rigid-tapping systems accepting a 0.255 inch shank diameter.
Installation is performed by machinists or qualified mechanical technicians. Ensure the workpiece is fully secured and the pilot hole is drilled to the correct tap drill size for a 1/4-20 UNC thread before starting. Power down and lock out all spindle drives before changing or inspecting the tap. Use appropriate cutting fluid rated for the workpiece material to prevent premature coating wear and maintain thread tolerance.
