The GUHRING 9039920041660 is a spiral point plug tap designed for through-hole threading in ferrous and hard-to-machine materials. Manufactured from High-Speed Steel-E-PM (powder metallurgy HSS) with a Titanium Nitride (TiN) coating, this tap delivers extended tool life in demanding production environments. It cuts an 8-32 UNC thread at 32 threads per inch, features 3 flutes with a plug chamfer entry, and conforms to a 2B class of fit. The overall length is 2.48 inches with a thread length of 0.827 inches and a shank diameter of 0.168 inches. This tool is intended for use by machinists, maintenance technicians, and tool-and-die professionals requiring consistent, accurate thread production.
This tap is suited for through-hole threading applications in steel, stainless steel, hardened steel, and chilled cast iron. The spiral point geometry pushes chips forward ahead of the cut, making it well matched to through-hole work where chip evacuation ahead of the tap is practical. The plug chamfer provides gradual thread engagement, which is typical for production tapping in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual tapping applications. It is not intended for blind-hole applications where chip packing is a concern. Right-hand cutting direction requires right-hand rotation for standard installation.
Designed for through-hole threading in steel, stainless steel, hardened steel, and chilled cast iron. Compatible with standard 8-32 UNC tapping applications requiring a 2B class of fit. Part of GUHRING Series 3992.
This tap should be installed by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with tapping operations. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the tap is properly aligned to the drilled hole before engagement to prevent tap breakage. Use an appropriate cutting fluid or tapping compound recommended for the workpiece material, particularly when threading stainless or hardened steel. For power tapping operations, verify spindle speed and feed rate are set to manufacturer-recommended values for the tap diameter and material before starting the cut.
