The GUHRING 9039820063500 is a spiral point tap designed for through-hole threading in a wide range of materials. Built from cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, this tap delivers hardness and wear resistance in demanding production environments. The H7 thread limit indicates a slightly oversize ground thread, with an oversize value of 0.003 inches, which compensates for spring-back in harder materials. At 2.5 inches overall length with a 0.255-inch shank diameter, it fits standard tap holders and chucks used in machining centers and drill presses. Machinists, tool-and-die workers, and maintenance technicians install this tap wherever accurate 1/4-20 UNC internal threads are required in through-hole applications.
This tap is suited for through-hole threading operations in both manual and CNC machine setups. Its 3-flute spiral point geometry pushes chips forward ahead of the cutting zone, making it effective in through-holes where chip evacuation is straightforward. It is rated for use in aluminum, gray cast iron, malleable iron, spheroidal iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and steel. The plug chamfer provides a gradual thread lead-in, making it a standard choice for general production tapping where a starting chamfer and full thread depth are both needed.
Designed for through-hole threading of 1/4-20 UNC threads. Compatible material applications include aluminum, gray cast iron, malleable iron, non-ferrous metal, spheroidal iron, stainless steel, and steel. Part of GUHRING Series 3982.
This tap should be installed in a proper tap holder or floating tap chuck to allow axial compensation during threading. Always ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the spindle speed matches the recommended surface footage for the workpiece material before engaging the tap. Power down or de-energize the machine before changing taps or adjusting toolholders. Follow applicable shop safety procedures and machine manufacturer guidelines when setting up tapping operations.
