The GUHRING 9039800127000 is a spiral flute tap designed for blind hole threading in alloyed and unalloyed steel. Part of the Series 3980 line, this 1/2-13 UNC tap features a modified bottoming chamfer and a 40-degree helix angle that efficiently evacuates chips upward out of the hole during cutting. The tap is manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel and carries a TiN (titanium nitride) coating to extend tool life under demanding cutting conditions. With an H7 thread limit and a 0.0030-inch oversize allowance, it produces threads that accommodate standard tolerance fits. Overall length is 3.381 inches, and the tool weighs 0.062 pounds.
This tap is intended for blind hole applications where chip clearance is critical and through-hole evacuation is not possible. The fast flute style combined with the 40-degree right-hand helix promotes positive chip flow in ductile ferrous materials, including medium-carbon and alloy steels commonly encountered in production machining, maintenance, and repair operations. It is suitable for use in CNC machining centers, CNC lathes, and manual drill press setups where tapping attachments with tension-compression float are used. Licensed machinists and toolmakers are the primary users in manufacturing and job-shop environments.
Designed for blind hole threading of alloyed and unalloyed steel. Rated for 1/2-13 UNC thread form with H7 class of fit. Coolant-through is not supported on this tap.
This tap should be installed by a qualified machinist using appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil rated for steel. Always secure the workpiece fully before tapping and confirm spindle speed and feed rate are appropriate for the material and tap diameter. Do not exceed the tap's rated thread limit by applying excessive torque. Power down and de-energize any CNC machine or tapping attachment before changing tooling.
