The GUHRING 9039750120070 is a thread forming tap designed for M12x1.50 metric fine applications. Unlike cutting taps, it displaces material to form threads without producing chips, making it well suited for blind hole and through-hole threading in ductile materials. Built from High-Speed Steel-E-CO (cobalt-alloyed HSS) and coated with Titanium Nitride (TiN), this tap delivers extended tool life and reduced friction under production conditions. It carries a 6HX class of fit with a D8/D9 thread limit and features a modified bottoming chamfer of 2-3 threads, allowing threading close to the bottom of a blind bore. Overall length is 3.382 inches with a tapping depth of 1.575 inches.
This tap is used in machining and fabrication environments where clean, strong formed threads are required in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals. The modified bottoming chamfer makes it practical for blind hole work where thread engagement near the bottom of the bore is needed. It is appropriate for CNC machining centers, turret lathes, and manual tapping operations in job shops, production facilities, and maintenance departments. The Series 3975 designation identifies it within the GUHRING standard tap program for metric fine thread forming.
Designed for M12x1.50 metric fine thread forming in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals (material application codes P, M, K, N). Suitable for both blind hole and through-hole threading applications requiring a 6HX class of fit.
Thread forming taps require a precisely sized tap drill hole larger than that used for cutting taps; consult the appropriate forming tap drill chart for M12x1.50 before drilling. Apply a suitable tapping fluid or cutting oil rated for the workpiece material before tapping. Power down or disengage the spindle and secure the workpiece before changing or inspecting tooling. This tool is intended for use by qualified machinists or tool and die professionals familiar with proper tapping speeds and feeds for the selected material.
