The GUHRING 9039750060040 is a thread forming tap designed for M6x0.75 metric fine internal threads. Unlike cutting taps, thread forming taps displace material rather than cut it, producing stronger threads with no chips to clear from blind holes. This tap is manufactured from High-Speed Steel-E-CO (cobalt-alloyed HSS) and carries a Titanium Nitride (TiN) coating for increased surface hardness and extended tool life. It carries a 6HX class of fit with a D6/D7 thread limit and a modified bottoming chamfer of 2-3 threads, making it suited for threading close to the bottom of blind holes. Overall length is 2.5 inches with a tapping depth of 1.1811 inches.
This tap is intended for blind hole and through-hole threading operations on materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals. The modified bottoming chamfer allows threading closer to the bottom of a blind hole than a standard plug chamfer, which is a common requirement in precision machining and fabrication shops. Thread forming taps require a specific tap drill size larger than that used for cut taps — consult a metric form tap drill chart for M6x0.75 before drilling the pilot hole. Use a suitable tapping fluid or cutting oil appropriate for the workpiece material; the 5 oil grooves on the shank aid lubricant distribution. Secure the workpiece and ensure the tap is driven on-axis to avoid thread distortion or tool breakage. This tool should be installed and operated by qualified machinists or tooling technicians following applicable shop safety procedures.
