The GUHRING 9039740120070 is a spiral flute tap designed for metric fine threading in blind hole applications. It cuts an M12 x 1.50 thread to a 6H class of fit and carries a modified bottoming chamfer, allowing it to thread close to the bottom of a blind hole. The tap is manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiN coating to extend tool life when working with alloyed and unalloyed steels. With a 40-degree helix angle and three right-hand flutes, it evacuates chips efficiently even in deeper blind holes. Overall length is 3.381 inches. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance mechanics use this tap in CNC and manual tapping operations.
This tap is suited for blind hole threading in alloyed and unalloyed steel workpieces. The modified bottoming chamfer provides more usable threads in shallow blind holes compared to a standard plug or taper tap. The fast flute style and 40-degree helix promote reliable chip evacuation without coolant-through capability, making it appropriate for applications where through-coolant is not available. It is part of the GUHRING Series 3974 and is sized for use with a standard tap holder accepting a 0.367-inch shank diameter.
Designed for blind hole threading in alloyed and unalloyed steel workpieces. Compatible with standard tap holders accepting a 0.367-inch shank diameter and a 0.275-inch square drive size. Thread limit D5 and D6.
This tap should be installed by a qualified machinist or toolroom professional using the appropriate tap holder or tapping head sized for a 0.367-inch shank. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the pilot hole diameter is correctly sized for the M12 x 1.50 thread form before starting. Apply a suitable cutting fluid for steel even though coolant-through is not available on this tap. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping between uses to avoid thread damage or tap breakage in blind holes.
