The GUHRING 9039460021840 is a spiral point tap designed for through-hole threading in a wide range of materials. Built from cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a titanium carbonitride (TiCN) coating, this tap handles demanding applications where standard HSS taps wear prematurely. It cuts a 2-56 UNC thread to a 2B class of fit with an H2/H3 thread limit. The plug chamfer style distributes cutting load gradually across the leading threads, making it well suited for through-hole work. Overall length is 1.751 inches with a shank diameter of 0.141 inches. Installation is right-hand only. Machinists, tool and die makers, and maintenance technicians use this tap for precision small-diameter threading tasks.
This tap is intended for through-hole threading applications across a broad material range including aluminum, gray cast iron, malleable iron, spheroidal iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and steel. The TiCN coating adds surface hardness and lubricity, reducing built-up edge when working in stainless and other tough alloys. The spiral point design pushes chips ahead of the tap rather than packing them in the flutes, which helps maintain clean thread formation in through-hole setups. It is appropriate for use in both manual tapping handles and CNC rigid-tapping applications.
Designed for through-hole threading of 2-56 UNC threads. Suitable for use in aluminum, gray cast iron, malleable iron, spheroidal iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and steel workpieces. No coolant-through feature; compatible with flood coolant or cutting oil applied externally.
This tap should be installed in a properly sized tap holder or collet chuck rated for the shank diameter. For CNC rigid tapping, verify that the machine spindle speed and feed rate are matched to the tap pitch before starting the cycle. Always use an appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tap life and protect the TiCN coating. Inspect the tap for chipping or wear before each use, as small-diameter taps can fail without visible warning if cutting forces exceed their limits.
