The GUHRING 9039450180000 is a spiral point tap designed for through-hole threading in steel and similar ferrous materials. Built from HSS-E cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN (titanium carbonitride) coating, it delivers improved wear resistance and heat tolerance compared to uncoated tooling. The tap cuts an M18x2.5 metric thread to a 6H class of fit with a D6/D7 thread limit, producing accurate internal threads suited to standard metric fastener assemblies. At 4.032 inches overall length with a 2.126-inch thread length, this is a full-size production tap installed by machinists and maintenance technicians working on steel fabrication, mechanical assemblies, and equipment repair.
This tap is intended for through-hole applications in steel workpieces where a spiral point style is preferred to push chips ahead of the cutting edge and clear the hole efficiently. The four-flute, plug chamfer configuration provides a balance of cutting performance and thread lead-in suitable for CNC tapping operations and hand-tapping on drill press setups. It is part of GUHRING Series 3945, a line of metric spiral point taps designed for consistent performance in production environments. Right-hand thread direction matches standard M18x2.5 fastener orientation.
Designed for through-hole threading in steel. Cuts M18x2.5 right-hand internal threads to 6H class of fit. Suitable for use in CNC machining centers, tapping heads, and manual drill press setups configured for M18x2.5 metric threading.
Installation requires a properly sized M18x2.5 tap drill hole prior to tapping. Power down or lock out any machine tool before mounting or removing the tap from the holder. Use appropriate cutting fluid or tapping compound for steel to reduce heat buildup and extend tool life. Follow machine manufacturer torque and feed specifications for the spindle and workpiece material; do not force the tap if resistance increases unexpectedly.
