The GUHRING 9039440158750 is a thread forming tap designed for producing 5/8-18 UNF internal threads without cutting or generating chips. Built from High-Speed Steel-E-CO (cobalt-grade HSS) and finished with a TiCN coating, this tap delivers extended tool life and resistance to heat and wear. The modified bottoming chamfer — with 2 to 3 chamfered threads — allows threading close to the bottom of blind holes while still being suitable for through-hole applications. It carries a 2BX class of fit with H9/H10 thread limits, making it appropriate for precision threading work in production environments. Licensed machinists and tooling specialists are the primary users.
This tap is suited for use in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals, covering material application codes P, M, K, and N. It is well matched to both blind hole and through-hole threading operations. The 6 oil grooves support lubrication during the forming process, which is critical when displacing material rather than cutting it. A flute-to-diameter ratio of 3xD indicates it is built for moderate-depth threading applications in a variety of industrial and machining contexts.
Designed for 5/8-18 UNF thread forming in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals. Suitable for both blind hole and through-hole threading applications where a chipless forming process is specified.
Thread forming taps require adequate lubrication or cutting fluid — use a tap lubricant appropriate for the workpiece material before starting. Ensure the tap is properly aligned with the drilled hole to avoid cross-threading or tap breakage. Power down all equipment and secure the workpiece before tool changes. Thread forming produces no chips but does work-harden the hole wall, so correct pilot hole diameter is essential — consult the applicable UNF forming tap drill chart before use.
