The GUHRING 9039430054860 is a thread forming tap designed for 12-24 UNC threading in both blind and through-hole applications. Built from High-Speed Steel-E-CO (cobalt-grade HSS) and coated with TiCN, this tap delivers increased hardness and heat resistance for demanding production environments. It carries a 2BX class of fit with a modified bottoming chamfer, giving machinists 2 to 3 chamfered threads and precise thread geometry near the bottom of a blind hole. Overall length is 2.382 inches with a thread length of 0.630 inches and a tapping depth of 1.063 inches. Licensed machinists and toolroom professionals install this tap in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual tapping setups.
This tap is suited for threading steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals across residential and commercial manufacturing operations. Its thread-forming design displaces rather than cuts material, which reduces chip accumulation and is especially effective in blind-hole applications where chip evacuation is a concern. The right-hand thread direction and H6/H7 thread limit make it appropriate for tight-tolerance production work. It belongs to GUHRING Series 3943, a line engineered for high-volume threading in metal fabrication and precision machining environments.
Designed for blind-hole and through-hole threading in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals. Material application codes P, M, K, and N confirm suitability across a broad range of workpiece materials.
Thread forming taps should be installed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians familiar with tapping feed rates and cutting fluid requirements. Always apply appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil before use; thread forming generates heat through material displacement rather than cutting, so lubrication is critical. Ensure the spindle speed and feed rate are matched to the workpiece material and tap diameter before starting. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use and never reverse a forming tap under power without confirming the machine setup supports it.
