The GUHRING 9039390140000 is a thread forming tap designed for M14x2.00 metric coarse threads in a 6HX class of fit. Unlike cutting taps, thread forming taps displace material rather than cut it, producing stronger threads with no chips to clear. This tap is built from High-Speed Steel-E-CO (cobalt-enriched HSS) and finished with a Titanium Nitride (TiN) coating for extended tool life and reduced friction. It features a modified bottoming chamfer with 2 to 3 chamfered threads, making it suitable for threading close to the bottom of blind holes. At 3.591 inches overall length with a 1.024-inch thread length and 0.429-inch shank diameter, this tap fits standard toolholding in CNC machining centers and manual tapping operations.
This tap is intended for blind hole and through-hole threading in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals, covering material application codes P, M, K, and N. It belongs to Guhring Series 3939 and carries a 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio with 6 oil grooves to support lubrication flow during the forming process. It is suited for production environments where chip-free threading is required, including automotive, general machining, and precision fabrication shops. Right-hand thread direction. No coolant-through feature.
Designed for use in materials rated P (steel), M (stainless steel), K (cast iron), and N (non-ferrous metals). Suitable for blind hole and through-hole threading applications requiring M14x2.00 metric coarse threads at 6HX class of fit. Thread limits D13 and D14 are supported.
This tap should be installed by a machinist or tooling technician familiar with thread forming operations. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the correct tapping fluid or cutting oil is applied before operation, as thread forming generates higher torque than cutting taps. Verify spindle speed and feed rate are set per the material being tapped; thread forming requires precise synchronization of feed and rotation. Inspect the tap and holder for runout before use to avoid thread quality issues or tap breakage.
