The GUHRING 9039390050000 is a thread forming tap designed for metric internal threading in blind hole and through-hole applications. Built from High-Speed Steel-E-CO (HSS-E-CO) with a Titanium Nitride (TiN) coating, this tap cold-forms M5x0.8 threads to a 6HX class of fit without cutting chips. The modified bottoming chamfer with 2 to 3 chamfered threads allows threading closer to the bottom of blind holes. Overall length is 2.382 inches (60.50 mm), and maximum tapping depth is 0.9449 inches (24.00 mm). Licensed machinists and tool-and-die technicians are the primary installers. The part belongs to Guhring Series 3939.
This tap is suited for threading M5x0.8 holes in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals. Material application codes P, M, K, and N confirm compatibility across ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials. The 3xD flute-by-diameter ratio and four oil grooves support consistent lubrication and tap stability during forming operations. Both blind hole and through-hole threading scenarios are supported, making it a versatile choice for production machining, maintenance shops, and precision fabrication environments where chip-free thread forming is preferred over cutting taps.
Designed for M5x0.8 metric blind hole and through-hole threading in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals (material application codes P, M, K, N). Part of Guhring Series 3939.
Thread forming taps require a correctly sized forming tap drill — consult Guhring Series 3939 specifications for the recommended pilot hole diameter, as it differs from standard cutting tap drill sizes. Ensure the workpiece is secured and the spindle is properly aligned before tapping to prevent tap breakage. Apply an appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil rated for the workpiece material; coolant-through is not supported on this tap. Follow shop safety practices and power down or de-energize any CNC or drilling equipment before tool changes.
