The GUHRING 9039390040000 is a thread forming tap designed for M4x0.70 metric coarse threading in demanding machining environments. Part of the Series 3939, this tap uses a cold-forming process rather than cutting, displacing material to create strong, precise threads with no chips to remove. It is manufactured from High-Speed Steel-E-CO (cobalt-enhanced HSS) and finished with a Titanium Nitride (TiN) coating to improve wear resistance and reduce friction during tapping operations. With a modified bottoming chamfer of 2-3 threads, it is suitable for threading close to the bottom of blind holes as well as through-hole applications. Installed by machinists, toolroom technicians, and precision manufacturing professionals.
This tap is suited for use in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals, covering ISO material application codes P, M, K, and N. It is designed for both blind hole and through-hole threading operations. The 3xD flute-by-diameter ratio and four oil grooves support consistent material flow and lubrication during the forming process. With an overall length of 2.13 inches (54.10 mm) and a thread length of 0.3937 inches (10.00 mm), it fits standard tapping chucks and holders sized for M4 shank tooling.
Designed for M4x0.70 metric coarse thread forming in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals. Suitable for use in blind hole and through-hole threading applications where chipless forming is preferred. Thread limit D6/D7 conforms to 6HX class of fit per metric thread standards.
Thread forming taps require a properly sized forming tap drill hole, which differs from a standard cut-tap pilot hole — consult the tap manufacturer or tooling chart for the correct forming drill diameter for M4x0.70. Apply an appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil rated for the workpiece material before and during the tapping operation. Secure the workpiece and ensure the tap is started perpendicular to the work surface to prevent cross-threading or tap breakage. This tool is intended for use by trained machinists or tooling professionals using a tapping machine, drill press, or CNC machining center with controlled feed rates.
