The GUHRING 9039390030000 is a thread forming tap designed for cold-forming internal threads without chip removal. It produces M3x0.50 metric coarse threads to a 6HX class of fit using a modified bottoming chamfer with 2-3 chamfered threads. The tap is manufactured from cobalt-grade high-speed steel (HSS-E-CO) and carries a titanium nitride (TiN) coating to extend tool life and reduce friction during tapping. With an overall length of 1.941 inches and a tapping depth of 0.709 inches, it is sized for compact thread applications in both blind and through-hole configurations. Licensed machinists and toolroom technicians install this tap in CNC machining centers and manual tapping setups.
This tap is suited for blind-hole and through-hole threading operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals, covering material application codes P, M, K, and N. The flute-by-diameter ratio of 3xD and four oil grooves support consistent lubricant delivery to the forming zone. It fits typical production environments in precision machining, automotive, and industrial manufacturing where chipless thread forming is preferred over cutting taps to achieve stronger thread flanks and closer tolerances.
Designed for use in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metal workpieces requiring M3x0.50 metric coarse internal threads to 6HX tolerance. Applicable to both blind-hole and through-hole threading operations in Series 3939 tooling setups.
Installation and operation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician familiar with thread forming tap procedures. Always apply the correct tapping fluid or cutting oil rated for the workpiece material before use — thread forming generates higher torque than cutting taps, so verify that the tapping spindle or tapping head torque capacity is appropriate for the tap diameter and workpiece material. Secure the tap in a proper collet or tap holder to maintain axial alignment and prevent tap breakage. Inspect the tap shank and square for wear or damage before each use.
