The GUHRING 9039380079380 is a cobalt steel straight-flute machine tap designed for cutting 5/16-24 UNF internal threads in demanding materials. Built with a modified bottoming chamfer, it allows threading closer to the bottom of blind holes than a standard plug tap. The four-flute straight-flute geometry provides rigid cutting action and efficient chip management in short, controlled chips. FIREX coating improves wear resistance and extends tool life in abrasive and hard materials. This tap is sized for right-hand threads and carries a Class 2B fit with an H3/H4 thread limit, meeting standard tolerance requirements for general mechanical assemblies. Licensed machinists and tool-room technicians are the primary users.
This tap is suited for blind hole threading and through-hole threading in abrasive materials and cast iron. The modified bottoming chamfer makes it particularly useful when thread depth must reach near the bottom of a drilled hole, a common requirement in production machining and maintenance repair operations. The cobalt substrate and FIREX coating allow it to handle work-hardening and abrasive workpieces that would accelerate wear on standard high-speed steel taps. It is appropriate for use in CNC machining centers, turret lathes, and manual drill presses equipped with a tapping attachment.
Designed for cutting 5/16-24 UNF right-hand internal threads. Rated for blind hole and through-hole threading applications in abrasive materials and cast iron. Verify spindle speed and feed rate against the tap manufacturer recommendations for the specific workpiece material before use.
This tap is installed by a machinist or tool-room technician using a standard tap holder, floating tap head, or rigid tapping cycle on a CNC machine. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the pilot hole is drilled and chamfered to the correct tap drill diameter for 5/16-24 UNF before tapping. Apply a suitable cutting fluid rated for the workpiece material, particularly when working cast iron or abrasive stock. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping between uses, as a damaged cutting edge can produce out-of-tolerance threads or fracture in the hole.
