The GUHRING 9039340048260 is a spiral flute tap designed for blind hole threading in aluminum and aluminum alloy workpieces. It cuts a 10-24 UNC right-hand thread to a 2B class of fit using a modified bottoming chamfer, making it suitable for threading holes that do not pass completely through the material. The tap is manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel and coated with titanium nitride (TiN) for improved wear resistance and reduced friction. The 45-degree helix angle promotes fast chip evacuation up the flute during threading operations. Overall length is 2.382 inches. Licensed machinists and toolroom operators are the primary users of this tap.
This tap is used in production and maintenance machining environments where blind hole tapping in aluminum or aluminum alloy components is required. The modified bottoming chamfer allows threading closer to the bottom of a blind hole compared to a standard taper or plug chamfer. The 2-flute fast flute style and 45-degree helix angle are optimized for non-ferrous, soft, and gummy materials such as aluminum alloy, where chip packing in the flute is a common concern. It is appropriate for both CNC tapping centers and manual tapping operations with a suitable torque-limiting tap handle.
Designed for blind hole threading of 10-24 UNC threads in aluminum and aluminum alloy materials. Fits standard tap holders and tapping heads sized for a 0.194-inch shank diameter with a 0.152-inch square drive.
This tap should be installed and operated by a qualified machinist or toolroom professional. Before tapping, ensure the drilled hole diameter matches the recommended tap drill size for a 10-24 UNC thread and that the workpiece is securely fixtured. Use an appropriate cutting fluid or tapping compound rated for aluminum to prevent galling and extend tool life. Do not reverse the tap without fully disengaging chip load, as cobalt taps can fracture under torsional shock in hard reversals.
