The GUHRING 9039280048260 is a spiral point tap designed for through-hole threading in metalworking applications. Built from HSS-E cobalt high-speed steel with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, it delivers increased wear resistance and extended tool life compared to uncoated alternatives. The tap is configured with 3 flutes, a plug chamfer, and a 2B class of fit to the UNC standard, making it a workhorse choice for production tapping of 10-24 threaded holes. The overall length is 2.382 inches, thread length is 0.945 inches, and shank diameter is 0.194 inches. Installation is right-hand only, and the tool carries a thread limit designation of H3/H4.
This tap is suited for through-hole threading operations in non-ferrous metals such as aluminum, brass, and copper alloys. The spiral point geometry pushes chips forward ahead of the tap rather than packing them into the flutes, which makes it particularly effective in through-hole production runs on CNC machining centers, drill presses, or tapping heads. It is used across light manufacturing, maintenance and repair shops, and HVAC or plumbing fabrication environments where 10-24 UNC fastener threads are common. The plug chamfer provides a gradual lead-in suitable for most standard through-hole depths.
Designed for through-hole threading of 10-24 UNC threads in non-ferrous metal workpieces. Compatible with standard tap holders, quick-change tapping heads, and floating tap collets sized for a 0.194-inch shank diameter.
This tap is installed by machinists and tool-and-die professionals using standard tapping equipment. Always ensure the tap is properly aligned with the pilot hole to prevent tap breakage, especially at smaller diameters. Use a cutting fluid or tapping compound appropriate for the workpiece material to reduce heat buildup and extend tool life. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each production run and replace when thread quality degrades.
