The GUHRING 9039280041660 is a spiral point tap designed for right-hand through-hole threading in non-ferrous metals. It cuts an 8-32 UNC thread profile with a plug chamfer entry and a 2B class of fit, making it suitable for standard fastener applications requiring clean, accurate threads. The tap is manufactured from HSS-E cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating for improved wear resistance and reduced friction during cutting. With 3 flutes and a thread limit of H3/H4, it delivers consistent thread geometry on production and repair work. Licensed machinists and maintenance technicians rely on this tap for reliable performance in sheet metal, aluminum, brass, and similar non-ferrous workpieces.
This tap is suited for through-hole threading operations in non-ferrous metal applications, including aluminum extrusions, copper alloys, brass fittings, and soft plastics encountered in light manufacturing, HVAC component fabrication, electrical enclosure work, and general mechanical assembly. The spiral point design pushes chips forward ahead of the tap, making it especially effective in through-hole situations where chip evacuation is critical. It is used in both hand-tapping and machine-tapping setups with appropriate tap holders.
Designed for through-hole threading in non-ferrous metals per the product specifications. Suitable for use in hand-tapping fixtures and CNC or manual machine-tapping setups accepting standard tap shank diameters of 0.168 inches.
This tap should be installed by machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with tapping operations and appropriate cutting speeds for non-ferrous materials. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the tap is properly aligned to the drilled hole before engagement. Use a compatible cutting fluid or tapping compound appropriate for the workpiece material to extend tool life. Never force a tap that has stopped advancing freely, as this risks breakage and damaged threads.
