The GUHRING 9039250079380 is a spiral point tap designed for through-hole threading in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from cobalt high-speed steel with a bright finish, it delivers extended tool life in demanding production and shop environments. The plug chamfer distributes cutting forces gradually across the lead threads, making it well suited for machine tapping operations where consistent thread form and tap longevity are priorities. With a 5/16-18 UNC thread form, 3 flutes, and right-hand cutting direction, this tap produces Class 2B threads to standard tolerance. It is installed by machinists, tool and die makers, and maintenance technicians working in metal fabrication, MRO, and general manufacturing.
This tap is intended for through-hole threading applications where chips can be pushed forward ahead of the cutting action. The spiral point geometry makes it effective in higher-speed machine tapping setups. Material application data specifies aluminum and aluminum alloys as primary workpiece materials, though cobalt construction also supports use in harder materials where standard HSS taps wear prematurely. It operates without coolant-through capability, so flood or mist coolant application at the tap entrance is the standard approach in production settings.
Designed for through-hole threading of 5/16-18 UNC threads in aluminum, aluminum alloys, and comparable non-ferrous workpiece materials. Fits standard straight-shank tap holders and machine tapping chucks sized for a 0.318-inch shank diameter.
This tap is intended for use by machinists and trained technicians operating drill presses, CNC machining centers, or tapping machines. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is locked out before changing or inspecting tooling. Use a rigid or floating tap holder appropriate for the machine type and verify proper alignment before engaging the tap. Apply flood, mist, or cutting oil at the tap entrance throughout the operation to prevent galling and prolong tool life.
