The GUHRING 9039170028450 is a spiral point tap designed for right-hand through-hole threading in 4-48 UNF applications. Built from HSS-E cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiN coating, this tap is engineered for cutting threads in stainless steel and other difficult-to-machine materials. It features a plug chamfer with 3 flutes and a 2B class of fit, providing accurate thread form in production and repair threading operations. With an overall length of 1.882 inches and a thread length of 0.433 inches, it fits standard tap holders for small-diameter work. Machinists and maintenance technicians use this tap where thread quality and tool life in hard materials are the primary concern.
This tap is suited for through-hole threading in ferrous and stainless steel workpieces at the 4-48 UNF thread standard. The spiral point geometry pushes chips forward ahead of the cutting zone, making it effective in through-hole applications where chip evacuation is critical. It is used in precision machining, aerospace component work, and general metalworking where fine-thread 4-48 UNF fastener holes are required. The TiN coating extends tool life and reduces friction during the cutting cycle. Coolant-through is not supported, so conventional flood or mist coolant delivery applies.

This tap is installed by machinists or tool-and-die technicians using a standard tap holder, tapping chuck, or CNC rigid tapping setup. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the spindle is aligned to the hole axis before beginning the threading cycle. Use appropriate cutting fluid or mist coolant for stainless steel to prevent work hardening and tap breakage. Inspect the tap for wear or chip buildup between uses, particularly when threading abrasive or gummy alloys.
