The GUHRING 9039090200000 is a spiral flute tap designed for blind hole threading in demanding materials including aerospace alloys and stainless steel. Built from powdered metal and coated with a TiN (titanium nitride) finish, this tap delivers extended tool life in tough, work-hardening materials where standard HSS tooling falls short. It carries a Modified Bottoming chamfer for threading close to the bottom of a blind hole and a 40-degree helix angle that efficiently evacuates chips upward during the cut. The overall length is 4.469 inches. Intended for production and maintenance machinists working to tight tolerances, it conforms to a 6H class of fit.
This tap is suited for metric coarse threaded blind holes in aerospace-grade alloys and stainless steel, where chip control and thread accuracy are critical. The fast flute style and 40-degree right-hand spiral move chips away from the cutting edge and out of the hole, reducing the risk of chip packing and tap breakage. It is appropriate for use in CNC machining centers, manual knee mills, and drill presses equipped with a tapping attachment. The 6H thread limit class (D6/D7) makes it compatible with standard metric go/no-go gauging.
Designed for blind hole threading in aerospace alloys and stainless steel to M20 x 2.50 Metric Coarse thread form; part of GUHRING Series 3909.
This tap should be installed and operated by a qualified machinist familiar with tapping speeds and feeds for powdered metal tooling. Always ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the spindle is properly aligned before beginning the thread cycle. Reduce spindle speed relative to standard HSS taps when working in stainless steel or aerospace alloys to avoid work hardening. Use a cutting fluid or tapping compound appropriate for the workpiece material and confirm the tap holder provides adequate float to prevent axial overload.
