The GUHRING 9039080254000 is a spiral point tap designed for through-hole threading in 1-12 UNF applications. Built from High-Speed Steel-E-PM (a powder-metallurgy HSS grade) and coated with TiN, it delivers consistent thread formation with extended tool life in demanding materials. The tap features 4 flutes and a plug chamfer, producing a 2B class of fit with H6/H7 thread limits. At 5.13 inches overall length with a 1.102-inch thread length and a 0.800-inch shank diameter, it is sized for typical machine-tapping setups. Licensed machinists and tool and die professionals specify this tap for precision threading operations.
This tap is rated for use in stainless steel, making it well-suited for production and maintenance threading where material hardness and work-hardening are concerns. The spiral point geometry pushes chips forward ahead of the cut, making it appropriate for through-hole applications where chip evacuation out the back of the hole is possible. It is used in CNC machining centers, turret lathes, and manual tapping setups across industrial, aerospace, and commercial fabrication environments. Right-hand thread direction matches standard UNF fastener requirements. Series 3908 from GUHRING is configured for consistency across repeat production runs.
Designed for through-hole threading in stainless steel and similar materials requiring 1-12 UNF right-hand threads with a 2B class of fit. Compatible with standard machine tapping equipment accepting a 0.800-inch shank diameter.
This tap is installed by machinists or tool operators using CNC machining centers, tapping heads, or manual tapping fixtures. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the spindle is properly aligned before beginning the tapping cycle. Use a cutting fluid or tapping compound rated for stainless steel to prevent work-hardening and tool breakage. Do not reverse the tap under power without confirming the machine has a synchronized tapping cycle or a tension-compression holder.
