The GUHRING 9039070142880 is a spiral point tap designed for through-hole threading in demanding materials including stainless steel. Manufactured from high-speed steel with extra powder metallurgy refinement (HSS-E-PM), it carries a titanium nitride (TiN) coating that extends tool life by reducing friction and wear at the cutting edge. The tap is ground to a 4-flute, plug chamfer configuration and meets a 2B class of fit to UNC thread standards. At 3.591 inches overall length with a 1.181-inch thread length and a shank diameter of 0.429 inches, it suits standard tap chucks and holders used in machine tapping operations.
This tap is intended for right-hand, 9/16-12 UNC through-hole threading applications. The spiral point geometry pushes chips forward ahead of the tap, making it well suited for machine tapping in through-holes rather than blind holes. Its H5/H6 thread limit designation makes it appropriate for close-tolerance work on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and tapping machines. The HSS-E-PM substrate and TiN coating give it particular utility when working with stainless steel and other abrasion-prone alloys commonly encountered in industrial and mechanical fabrication.
Designed for through-hole threading applications in stainless steel and similar materials; part of the GUHRING Series 3907 spiral point tap line for 9/16-12 UNC right-hand threading.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tool and die professionals using standard tap holders or floating tap chucks rated for the shank diameter. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the spindle speed is set appropriately for the material and tap diameter before engaging the tool. Always apply a suitable cutting fluid compatible with the workpiece material to protect both the tap and the part surface. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use; a damaged tap in stainless steel can seize and break without warning.
