The GUHRING 9039070041660 is a spiral point tap designed for through-hole threading in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials, including stainless steel. It carries an 8-32 UNC thread form with a plug chamfer, 3 flutes, and a right-hand thread direction. The tap is manufactured from High-Speed Steel-E-PM (powder metallurgy HSS) and finished with a TiN (titanium nitride) coating for improved wear resistance and tool life. With a 2B class of fit and an H3/H4 thread limit, it produces threads that meet standard tolerance requirements for general mechanical assemblies. Licensed machinists, maintenance technicians, and toolroom professionals are the primary users of this tap.
This tap is suited for through-hole threading operations in production and maintenance environments. Its spiral point geometry pushes chips forward through the hole, making it particularly effective in through-hole applications on stainless steel, mild steel, and similar materials. The 8-32 UNC size is a common fastener thread found in instrumentation panels, enclosures, and light structural assemblies. The TiN coating provides additional resistance to built-up edge, which is especially valuable when threading work-hardening alloys such as austenitic stainless steel.
Designed for through-hole threading in stainless steel and comparable materials. Produces 8-32 UNC internal threads per the Series 3907 specifications with a 2B class of fit. Verify workpiece material hardness and pre-drill hole size against standard UNC tap drill charts before use.
This tap is installed in a manual tap handle, tapping head, or CNC rigid-tapping spindle by a machinist or maintenance technician. Ensure the pre-drilled hole diameter matches the recommended tap drill size for 8-32 UNC before beginning. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material, particularly when threading stainless steel, to reduce heat and prevent galling. Do not exceed the tap's rated thread limit or force the tap against an interrupted thread without confirming compatibility with the interrupted thread geometry.
