The GUHRING 9039010095250 is a spiral point tap designed for right-hand through-hole threading in steel and similar materials. Built from HSS-E cobalt high-speed steel, it provides added heat and wear resistance compared to standard HSS taps. This tap cuts a 3/8-16 UNC thread to a 2B class of fit, with an H5/H6 thread limit for consistent, accurate tolerances. The bright, uncoated finish suits general-purpose threading applications where coating is not required. With an overall length of 2.941 inches and a thread length of 0.787 inches, it fits standard tap holders and machine spindles used in CNC machining, drill press, and manual tapping setups. Licensed machinists and maintenance technicians are the primary installers.
This tap is suited for through-hole threading operations in ferrous metals, particularly steel. The spiral point geometry — also called a gun tap — pushes chips forward ahead of the cutting zone, making it efficient in through-hole applications where chip evacuation is straightforward. The 3-flute, plug chamfer design provides a gradual lead-in and balanced cutting action. Series 3901 is a standard commercial series from GUHRING intended for production and maintenance threading at 3/8-16 UNC pitch, one of the most common fastener thread standards in North American trade and industrial work.
Designed for through-hole threading in steel workpieces requiring a 3/8-16 UNC, 2B class of fit thread. Compatible with standard straight-shank tap holders accepting a 0.381-inch shank diameter. Fits GUHRING Series 3901 tooling specifications.
This tap is installed by machinists or maintenance technicians using a drill press, CNC machining center, or manual tap wrench with a properly sized 3/8-16 tap drill. Ensure the workpiece is securely clamped and the tap is held perpendicular to the work surface to prevent tap breakage or thread runout. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material before tapping. Never reverse a spiral point tap excessively — allow chips to clear forward through the hole as intended by the spiral point design.
