The GUHRING 9038990016500 is a solid carbide micro drill bit engineered for precision drilling in ferrous materials. Built to Series 3899 specifications, it features a 1.65 mm diameter, a 140-degree faceted point, and a TiAlN (titanium aluminum nitride) coating that extends tool life under high-temperature cutting conditions. The spiral flute geometry and web-thinned construction reduce thrust force and improve chip evacuation in deep holes. With an overall length of 38 mm and a 3.00 mm straight-cylindrical shank, this drill mounts directly into standard collet chucks and tool holders without adapters. Diameter tolerance is held to h7 for consistent, repeatable hole sizing in production environments.
This drill bit is intended for precision metalworking applications where tight hole tolerances and small diameters are required. Primary workpiece materials are cast iron (material grade K) and steel (material grade P), making it suitable for machining centers, CNC drilling operations, and manual precision drilling setups in tool-and-die, mold making, and general metalworking. The 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports drilling depths up to 9.53 mm (0.3750 inches) in a single pass. It is typically installed and used by machinists and CNC tooling specialists working with precision rotating tool equipment.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or production micro drill bit for use in standard straight-shank collet chucks and precision tool holders accepting a 3.00 mm shank diameter across CNC machining centers and manual drilling equipment.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician familiar with micro-diameter tooling. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the collet and verify runout with an indicator before initiating a cut, as micro-diameter drills are sensitive to even minor misalignment. Avoid side-loading or prying forces, which can fracture solid carbide at small diameters.
