The GUHRING 9015830158750 is a thread forming tap designed for producing 5/8-11 UNC internal threads without cutting chips. Made from High-Speed Steel-E-CO (cobalt-alloyed HSS), the tap features a Titanium Nitride (TiN) coating that increases surface hardness and extends tool life in demanding applications. With a Modified Bottoming chamfer of 2-3 threads, it is suited for threading close to the bottom of blind holes as well as through-hole applications. Overall length is 4.33 inches with a thread length of 1.18 inches. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die professionals specify this tap for precision internal thread work where chip evacuation is a concern.
This tap is rated for use in steel, stainless steel, non-ferrous metals, and superalloys, covering material application codes P, M, N, and S. It is well suited to production machining environments in both job shop and manufacturing settings where consistent 2BX class of fit threads are required in blind or through-hole configurations. The Modified Bottoming chamfer allows threading into shallow blind holes while the forming process work-hardens the thread form for added strength. Series 1583 is GUHRING's dedicated roll-forming tap line for these applications.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and tapping machines set up for 5/8-11 UNC right-hand thread forming in steel, stainless steel, non-ferrous metal, and superalloy workpieces. Requires a tapping fluid or through-spindle lubrication compatible with roll-form tapping.
Thread forming taps require a properly sized forming tap drill hole — consult GUHRING published drill size charts for the correct pre-drill diameter before use, as this differs from cutting tap requirements. Secure the workpiece and use a rigid or floating tap holder appropriate for the machine and material. Apply a high-quality tapping fluid rated for the workpiece material; forming taps are not suitable for use dry. Inspect the tap and holder for runout before production runs to avoid oversized or out-of-tolerance threads.
