The GUHRING 9012420127000 is a solid carbide screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding shop and field applications. Built to DIN 6539 standards, this 0.5-inch (12.70 mm shank) bit features a 140-degree split point (SU type) with web thinning for reduced thrust and faster entry. The two-flute spiral configuration with a 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio clears chips efficiently and maintains straightness through the cut. At 102 mm overall length with a 51 mm flute length, the screw machine format offers added rigidity over jobber-length alternatives. Machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and CNC operators rely on this series for consistent hole quality in production environments.
This drill bit is engineered for cutting cast iron and steel, making it well suited for production machining, maintenance shops, and fabrication environments where tool life and dimensional accuracy are priorities. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in standard drill chucks and collet holders. The coated carbide construction supports dry and mist-lubricated drilling. Maximum drilling depth is 1.258 inches (31.95 mm). Series 1242 bits from GUHRING are positioned for high-cycle production work where consistent tolerances are required across multiple parts.
Designed as a DIN 6539 Series 1242 screw machine drill bit for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual lathes equipped with standard straight-shank toolholding. Primary workpiece materials are cast iron and steel.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians familiar with rotating cutting tool safety. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet before operation and verify runout before beginning a production run. Power down the spindle completely before changing tooling. Follow applicable shop safety standards and machine tool manufacturer guidelines for speed and feed selection based on workpiece material.
