The GUHRING 9012420071400 is a solid carbide screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding shop and production environments. It carries a 9/32 inch (0.2812 inch) diameter, a 140-degree split point (SU point type), and a right-hand spiral flute geometry. The submicron carbide grade and web-thinned, parallel-web construction reduce thrust and improve hole entry in hard materials. Machinists, tool-and-die shops, and CNC production floors rely on this type of stub-length bit where rigidity and accuracy matter more than extended reach. It conforms to DIN 6539 standards.
This bit is built for drilling cast iron and steel, covering the most common ferrous workpiece materials found in production machining and maintenance operations. The screw machine (stub) length format keeps deflection low and is a standard choice for CNC machining centers, turret lathes, and drill presses where a shorter flute-to-diameter ratio improves straightness and tool life. The 3xD flute-by-diameter ratio and regular spiral flute type suit through-hole and blind-hole applications in these materials. No coolant-through capability is required for the applications this geometry targets.
Designed as a DIN 6539 Series 1242 screw machine length drill bit suited for drilling cast iron and steel workpieces; fits any standard drill chuck or collet accepting a straight-cylindrical shank at 0.2812 inch diameter.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with cutting tool safety and machine operation. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before inserting or removing the bit from the chuck or collet. Verify chuck or collet runout is within acceptable limits before use, as excessive runout accelerates carbide bit wear and can cause breakage. Carbide tooling is brittle — avoid side loads, interrupted cuts beyond the tool's design rating, or dropping the bit on hard surfaces.
