The GUHRING 9012420047000 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in cast iron and steel. Built from submicron solid carbide with a coated finish, this bit delivers consistent accuracy in demanding production and job-shop environments. It measures 0.185 inches (4.70 mm) in diameter with an overall length of 58.00 mm and a flute length of 24.00 mm. The 140-degree split point (SU point type) reduces thrust and improves self-centering on entry. Web thinning with a parallel web configuration further reduces cutting resistance. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die shops, and metalworking professionals use this bit for precision short-hole drilling where rigidity and repeatability are critical.
This drill bit is suited for production drilling in ferrous materials including cast iron and steel. The screw machine length (stub) profile provides added rigidity over jobber-length bits, making it a reliable choice for drill press work, CNC machining centers, and manual mill applications where deflection must be minimized. The 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports efficient chip evacuation in shallow-to-moderate depth holes up to 0.667 inches (16.95 mm). It is offered as a single unit with no minimum order requirement beyond one piece.
Designed for drilling cast iron and steel workpieces. Conforms to DIN 6539 standards and is part of GUHRING Series 1242, covering the 0.1500 to 0.2000 inch (3.50 to 5.00 mm) diameter range.
Installation and use of solid carbide drill bits should be performed by qualified machinists or tool-and-die professionals. Ensure the spindle and chuck are fully de-energized and locked out before changing tooling. Carbide bits are brittle and require secure, concentric clamping to prevent micro-fracture from runout or side loading. Coolant-through is not supported on this bit; use appropriate external coolant or cutting fluid as dictated by the workpiece material and shop practice.
