The GUHRING 9005670040000 is a single-ended spotting drill designed to create precise center points before drilling operations in metal fabrication and machining applications. It features a 120-degree drill point angle ground from high speed steel (HSS) stock and finished with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating for improved wear resistance and surface hardness. The cutting diameter is 4mm (0.1575 inches), the overall length is 55mm (2.165 inches), and the flute length is 12mm (0.472 inches). The straight cylindrical shank is also 4mm in diameter, making it compatible with standard drill chucks and collets. This drill belongs to GUHRING Series 567 and is suited for general-purpose spotting work in production and job shop environments.
This spotting drill is used to accurately locate and start holes, preventing drill walk on flat, curved, or angled workpiece surfaces. The 120-degree point angle is a widely used geometry for general-purpose spotting, compatible with standard twist drills of various included angles. The two-flute spiral design clears chips efficiently during short spotting passes. It is intended for use in CNC machining centers, manual mills, and drill presses where consistent hole placement is required. Typical materials machined include mild steel, alloy steel, aluminum, and similar metals in both production runs and prototype work.
Designed as an OEM-style spotting drill suitable for use in CNC machining centers, manual milling machines, and drill presses equipped with standard drill chucks or collet systems accepting a 4mm straight cylindrical shank.
Installation is performed by machinists and CNC operators in machine shop environments. Power down or fully stop the spindle before inserting or removing the tool from the chuck or collet. Ensure the shank is fully seated and the chuck or collet is torqued to the toolholder manufacturer specification before running the spindle. Verify runout after tool installation to maintain spotting accuracy, and use speeds and feeds appropriate for HSS tooling in the workpiece material being machined.
