The GUHRING 9005570190500 is a 90-degree spotting drill ground from high speed steel and finished bright uncoated. It is designed to create accurate center points and chamfer starting locations before drilling operations on metalworking setups. The 3/4-inch cutting diameter and straight-cylindrical shank make it compatible with standard drill chucks and tool holders used in machining centers and drill presses. At 5.1563 inches overall length with a 1.77-inch spiral flute length, it is sized for general-purpose spotting work. Two right-hand flutes evacuate chips efficiently during the spotting cycle. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary installers of this type of tooling.
This spotting drill fits general-purpose metalworking applications in both job shop and production environments. It is appropriate for use on ferrous and non-ferrous metals where a clean, accurate pilot indent is needed before through-drilling or deep-hole drilling. The 90-degree point angle aligns with the most common drill point geometry, reducing the need for secondary chamfering operations. Series 557 from GUHRING is positioned for standard tolerance work where an uncoated HSS tool is sufficient for the material and cycle demands.
Designed as a general-purpose spotting drill for use in standard drill chucks, collet holders, and tool holders accepting a 3/4-inch straight-cylindrical shank on drill presses, machining centers, and CNC turning centers.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before inserting or removing the tool from any chuck or holder. Verify that the chuck or collet bore is clean and free of chips before seating the shank to prevent runout. Follow the machine manufacturer and applicable shop safety guidelines for speeds and feeds appropriate to the workpiece material.
