The GUHRING 9005560127000 is a single-ended spotting drill designed to accurately start holes and chamfer drill points before full-depth drilling operations. Built from high speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, this tool carries a 120-degree drill point angle and a 1/2 inch cutting diameter. It has an overall length of 102 millimeters (4.016 inches) and a 30 millimeter (1.181 inch) flute length. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 1/2 inch in diameter. Metalworking machinists and tool and die technicians typically install and run this drill on CNC machining centers, manual mills, and drill presses.
This spotting drill is suited for general purpose metalworking applications where precise hole location and consistent countersink geometry are required before using a twist drill or boring tool. The spiral, two-flute design clears chips efficiently during the short spotting pass. It is appropriate for use on ferrous and non-ferrous materials in both job shop and production environments where a reliable, uncoated HSS spotting tool is preferred over coated alternatives. Series 556 identifies the GUHRING product line from which this tool originates.
Designed as a general purpose OEM-style spotting drill suitable for use in standard 1/2 inch straight-shank toolholders, ER collet chucks, and drill press chucks on CNC and manual machining equipment.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tool crib personnel. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before inserting or removing the tool from its holder. Confirm the shank is fully seated and the collet nut or chuck is tightened to the toolholder manufacturer's specification before resuming operation. Spotting drills should be run at appropriate surface footage for the workpiece material — consult a machining data reference or the manufacturer's speed and feed tables before first use.
