The GUHRING 9005520105000 is a stub-length (screw machine length) high speed steel drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in aluminum and other non-ferrous materials. At 0.4134 inches (10.50 mm) in diameter, it features a 130-degree drill point angle and a parabolic flute geometry that improves chip evacuation and reduces cutting forces. The web-thinned, parallel-web construction reduces the thrust required at entry, making it well suited for production drilling environments where cycle time and hole quality matter. It is installed by machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and maintenance trades working with CNC machining centers, drill presses, and hand-held power tools.
This drill bit is built to DIN 1897 standards and falls within the Series 552 product family from GUHRING. Its stub-length body provides added rigidity compared to jobber-length bits, reducing deflection in short-hole applications. Typical use cases include production drilling of aluminum housings, brackets, and plate stock where a 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio is sufficient. The straight-cylindrical shank is compatible with standard drill chucks and collet systems commonly found in machine shop and field-service setups. No coolant-through capability is present, so conventional flood or mist cooling methods apply where heat management is needed.
Designed as a DIN 1897 stub-length replacement drill bit suitable for use with standard drill chucks and collet holders accepting straight-cylindrical shanks in the 0.4000 to 0.4500 inch (9.50 to 11.00 mm) diameter range. Primary workpiece material designation is aluminum.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with rotating cutting tool safety. Ensure the drill chuck or collet is fully engaged on the straight-cylindrical shank and that runout is within acceptable limits before use. Secure the workpiece firmly to prevent movement during the cut, and apply appropriate flood or mist cooling since this bit does not have coolant-through capability. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use and replace the bit if the point geometry is compromised.
