The GUHRING 9005490142900 is a jobber length drill bit designed for production and maintenance drilling in metal, wood, and composite materials. Built from high speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, this bit features a parabolic flute geometry that improves chip evacuation and reduces heat buildup during cutting. The 130-degree point angle is optimized for use in aluminum and similar non-ferrous materials. With an overall length of 6.625 inches and a flute length of 4.5 inches, the bit offers reach appropriate for standard jobber-length applications. It carries a straight-cylindrical shank at 9/16 inches diameter for use in standard drill chucks and milling machine spindles.
This bit is suited for drilling aluminum, plastic, and low-carbon steel in both shop and field environments. The parabolic flute design with a 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio allows deeper cuts with fewer pecking cycles compared to standard-geometry bits. The web-thinned, tapered web configuration reduces thrust at the cutting tip, making it practical for handheld or machine drilling into softer workpiece materials. It is a right-hand cut bit intended for conventional drill press, CNC, or portable drill applications. The Series 549 designation aligns this bit with the DIN 338 standard for jobber length drills.
Designed as a DIN 338-compliant jobber length drill bit for use in standard drill chucks, drill presses, and CNC machining centers accepting a 9/16-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece material designations listed are K, N, and P, corresponding to aluminum and non-ferrous metals, non-metals, and steel workpieces respectively.
Installation and use should be performed by machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with rotating cutting tool safety. Secure the shank fully in the chuck before operation and confirm chuck key is removed before powering the drill. Do not exceed the drill press or machine spindle speed recommended for the workpiece material and bit diameter. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use and replace the bit if the point shows signs of damage.
