The GUHRING 9005490018500 is a jobber-length twist drill bit sized to wire gauge No. 49, with a decimal diameter of 0.0728 inches. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, it features a parabolic flute geometry and a 130-degree split point with web thinning for improved chip evacuation and reduced thrust at entry. The overall length is 1-13/16 inches with a 7/8-inch flute length, a straight-cylindrical shank, and a tapered web configuration. This is a two-flute, right-hand-cut bit manufactured to DIN 338 standards. It is suited for production drilling applications where consistent hole quality at small diameters is required, and is designated as a high-performance grade within the GUHRING Series 549 lineup.
This drill bit is rated for use in aluminum and non-ferrous materials (material codes K, N, and P), making it a practical choice for sheet metal, electronics, and light fabrication work where small-diameter holes are drilled repeatedly. The 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio and parabolic flute design support efficient chip clearing in these materials. A maximum drilling depth of 0.757 inches applies. The bit ships individually but carries a minimum order quantity of 10 units, making it appropriate for tool crib stocking, production floor kits, or job lot purchasing by machine shops and fabrication operations.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and production-grade drill bit compatible with standard drill chucks and collet systems accepting a 0.0728-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece materials are aluminum and non-ferrous metals per material codes K, N, and P.
Installation is performed by machinists, tool and die workers, or skilled fabricators using a drill press, CNC machining center, or hand-held drill with a precision chuck. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet before operation and verify runout is within acceptable tolerance for the application. Always set spindle speed appropriate to the workpiece material and bit diameter — consult published HSS speed-and-feed tables for non-ferrous materials. Wear appropriate eye protection and ensure the workpiece is clamped securely before drilling.
